Hands in a Heart over Stomach - Endoscopy Procedure

Endoscopy Procedure

Gastrointestinal endoscopy refers to the use of an instrument, called an endoscope, which is inserted through one of the natural body orifices such as the mouth. This procedure allows doctors to visualize and manipulate different parts of the esophagus, stomach and Duodenum.

Upper endoscopy lets your doctor examine the lining of the upper part of your gastrointestinal tract, which includes the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (first portion of the small intestine). Doctors use a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope, which has its own lens and light source to view the images on a video monitor. Medical staff may refer to upper endoscopy as upper GI endoscopy, (EGD), Gastroscopy.

It is used to diagnose ulcer disease, GERD and many other diseases of Esophagus, Stomach and Duodenum.Doctor can take biopsy, remove polyp or foreign body and stop bleeding.Procedure is comfortable and without pain as pt is sedated and takes about less than 40 minutes. However, you should have 2 to 2.5 hours for arrival, preparation and recovery. You should bring someone with you to drive back to your home. After the procedure, you can not drive. It is safe procedure in hands of Dr. Sufi with a 38 years of experience. Rarely there can be few complications which can be explained to you at the time of first consult.
